Coloring Soap
For those of you who want to add color to your soaps, but want to stay natural-more
Recipes, Page 7

Green tea is astringent, high in antioxidants, and has been found to have an antibacterial and calming affect on the skin. We boiled 23.5 oz distilled water to seep the two green tea bags in to make a fairly strong brew. We had to weigh the mixture again and add distilled water to make up for evaporation.

The Green tea brewed to a fairly thick honey color, but with the addition of Lye, the tea turned a much darker brown and then as it cooled, it turned a lighter chocolate brown. The soap smells and lathers very well and at the time of curing, the bar had turned to a lovely root beer color.

Note: Even if you are not substituting any of the base oils in our formulations with another oil, be sure to run the entire formula through a lye calculator to ensure that you are using the accurate amount of lye. Do this as a rule, regardless of circumstances. If you make it a habit, you won't go wrong.
